The pandemic has put a hold on physical contact. This has created new challenges for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani as physical interaction is a central part of dance, to say the least. This mini documentary directed by Daniel Kedem is a flashback to December 2020. It follows some of the dancers who share what it is like to work and keep joy alive under these completely new circumstances.
The film follows the dancers in preparation for an updated version of Hofesh Shechter's acclaimed dance work Contemporary Dance. It was supposed to get a revival in January, as part of the dance evening 12 songs+. 12 songs+ was to also include a world premiere of Kenneth Kvarnström's 12 songs - featuring Ane Brun, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and the Göteborg Opera Orchestra, but the premiere was postponed due to the pandemic. In the documentary, Ane Brun and Kenneth Kvarnström talk about their creation with Katrín Hall, Artistic Director of GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. (You can read more about 12 songs and Contemporary Dance here.)
Dance with physical distance was shown for the first time in December 2020, in connection with a live broadcast of the rehearsals for Contemporary Dance.
Watch it here, 7–31 March. Running time 18 mins.
